Algae Information
Common Names
- Blue Green Algae
- Blanketweed Filamentous
Algae or Blanketweed Filamentous is very unsightly and is increasing in waters due to nutrient concentrations as a result of human activity and natural processes. There is demand to improve the quality of waters across the country and therefore the algae needs controlling for environmental, recreational and health reasons.
Herbicidal treatment and mechanical removal are not options for controlling the algae, so we at Aquatic Solutions recommend installing barley straw rafts, as it is a natural environmentally friendly method of control to reduce algae in UK waters.
